Transforming East Asia: Regional Integration in a Trade War Era

Abstract This paper evaluates the trade and welfare implications of further East Asian integration, through signing China-Japan-Korea FTA, continued tensions between US China. Our analysis uses a structural gravity approach to explore effects these cooperative non-cooperative policies. key findings are: (i) for China, FTA can compensate (ii) in terms members involved, reductions tariffs are expected lead larger gains compared those from lower NTBs (iii) deeper agreement will be more enhancing. Overall, integration appears appealing prospect light with US.
